How to have 4 stages of boost with Haltech Computers!!

Hello all,

In a recent post on another Haltech forum i was asking around about doing fixed boost control in a similar fashion than like a low boost high boost deal in most popular boost controller setups and we basically came to the conclusion that using a steering wheel mounted button connected to the trim input connector on the Haltech harness and a couple of resistors you can in fact have 4 different stages of boost control with your Haltech ECU.

Yes, 4 stages!, how do you ask, well simple, the first is to tune the engine completely to what ever max level you will run at, say 30psi, after this is done you take your primary maps, ignition, fuel and wastegate, and copy them exactly to the second set of maps.

Then, after you've got both sets of maps tuned, you will of course need to have the appropriate haltech boost control solenoid (or any you can find) connected and properly set, in wastegate map 1 you will have set up to a certain level of boost, say 15psi max, then on wastegate map 2 you will have set it to max of 30psi.

Now, using this nifty simple little diagram:

A pushbutton, and where R1 is a 1Kohm resistor and R2 is a 10k (or possibly 8.5, since the haltech trim knob only goes as high as 8.64kohms) resistor, connect it to the trim input and you will now be able to have the lowest possible boost setting on your first map change to its highest which is 15psi, and with the aid of a toggle switch connected to the Aux. In whire (or what ever other wire you decide depending on which ECU you have) to change over to the 2nd set of maps, where the same result applies, button depressed lower boost setting, button pressed, high boost setting.

And voiala! you now have 4 stages of boost levels to choose from with your Haltech. How you make the most of them is your own doing, we've just given you the tools to have this cool simple option.

wouldnt it be simpler to have your push buttons operating a different circuit, which will have different resistances to mimic turning the trim pot, just it will be in stages not linear? ie one circuit for at rest 0ohm, then button for 2.5kohm, then one for 4kohm etc etc? making a small push button arrangement for the steering wheel is easy, just use one of those cheap chinese stereo remotes, and modify it to suit. or just make your own.

i dont have the luxury to swap maps i just have an e6k

Yes you do, if you update the firmware and use one of the later versions of software that exists for the E6K, v7.17.

But of course, since this version of software was not publicly released its not without some bugs.
