How were they done Soldered in to the back of the DB9 along with the CAN line? Bit of an ugly way to do it.

I do not know about when this car was built but by the time I bought my E11 the install notes for the dash recommended removing the CAN conductors from the DB9 and connecting them directly to the dash input (Direct to the dash in my case with a Haltech branded IQ3 with internal module, direct connect to the module in your case)

Did you ever try it (Before removing the CAN from the DB9) with a laptop NOT connected? Maybe the serial port on a PC ties the CAN lines high or low and stops CAN from working. I can't recall which DB9 pins they were on off the top of my head.

Scratch that, I re installed the software, the calibrate window is only available for USM channels in my old config.
