E6k Running Rb30 Miss

E6k Running Rb30 Miss

Postby NoHope on Mon Jun 28, 2010 3:39 pm

HI,
I have a 87 vl commodore, which has been happily running a e6k for the last 2 or so years. It runs a rb30 sohc which has been converted to turbo. The e6k runs of the nissan optical sensor inside the vl's distributor, runs a dumb coil, runs the map sensor that came with it and bosch 363 injectors. I installed it and tuned it myself and have never had an issue. Recently I took the mates out for some serious burnouts, and after giving it some serious shit it has devloped a miss at 4000rpm, I changed the optical sensor 3 times no change, have done compression test all good. checked the injectors and are fine no leaks even spray. Checked the afr and noticed at 4000rpm its going of the clock rich, But don't know if this is from over fueling or unburnt gas ? Leads, rotor, cap all less than 1000k's old. Re gaped plugs no difference, Checked fuel line return for blockages all good. It dose it free reving it as well as on load ? Any I dears guys, Would appreciate it !

unburnt gas will usually show as a lean spike, I'd keep looking for reasons for the overfueling. check fuel pressure, map water and air temp sensors. Is the rpm reading consistent at every rpm? I assume so or you would have noticed it.

Hi Ignition,
How Would I got about checking the sensors ? Is there some way with a multimeter ? The Data page shows no errors on any of the sensors. The rpm always seem sorta erractic to me, So am unsure what normal looks like lol, But I got a log of the over fueling if you got the time would a appreciate it if you could have a look.
Cheers

I'll gladly look at a screenshot of the log, I dont feel like installing software just to view it :P

I meant just check for odd looking spikes in any of the sensors :)

I had something stupid like this happen to my car..

Turned out to be a tiny imperfection in the spark wire letting the spark jump to the head.

This is not your solution, however I am trying to point out that "Go Back To The Basics'" and check everything.

Ok,
Had a go and trying to fix it today, I got my figures around the wrong way, Its running lean not rich. So I went a brought a gauge for my fpr to see if the pressure was dropping out, but it wasn't. So I cranked it from 40psi base pressure to 80psi and it fixed it ! but this is not the fix. Loaded up another map I knew that worked, and its still leaning out. And I mean spiking on the air/fuel meter which max's at 20.

If your AFR is hitting 20, then your engine is extremely lean and you should stop testing/tuning until you ether find out what the problem is or get some professional help from a tuner.

Normally, your AFR should go closer to 13, 12, 11 under load.

That map is obviously not set for your particular car, or there is something wrong somewhere else.
Is your T-AFR map set and is the O2 Correction an option on your ECU?

Normally a "Base Map" is just that, a starting point, every car is different and it sounds like you will blow your motor if you continue by yourself.

Hi,
Na I tuned it properly from the start, Its started doing this all by itself. Havn't touched the tuning in over a year. Its gota be something to do with the injectors, Maybe thinking runing bosch 363 injectors with low .5ohm in pairs 1ohm might of stuffed the injector drivers, reading in the old manual it needs a minimum of 2.5ohms.
