Fuel Level For Dash Display

Fuel Level For Dash Display

How about an input for fuel level sensors that then could be sent on the CAN line for the racepack display.

Most are simply resistance sensors just add a pull up resistor circuit so your not sending a lot of current through it and you read the voltage. Same as any other sensor. Biggest issue I see is that you would want some dampening on the reading if your baffles are great during braking and accelerating.

Second thoughts on this.. Racepak is suggesting the above for reading fuel level, but I'm wondering if there are any safety issues with running current through the sensor however minuscule. We do run 10-20 amps through fuel pump though...

Fritts, will the Racepak allow you to use an alternate input on the Haltech and rename it on the dash? Say you used oil pressure as the defined channel in the Haltech as your input for the fuel level. The Haltech then outputs a signal to the dash, can you reconfigure what the dash is seeing as oil pressure and name it fuel level? From there is would seem to be pretty easy to set the scale for empty to full. Just trying to find a creative way to eliminate the need for the expensive v-net parts.

I actually was attempting to do that in a round about way. Its just easier when its outputting it directly is all.

Here it is using the fuel pressure input on the haltech to display the fuel level. BTW we are selling the IQ3 insets in a flat and curved panel for around $25 instead of the $90 that Racepak is charging.

Great news for displaying fuel level in IQ3...
So I guess that if the level sensor is 0-90 Ohm...then by using a 90 Ohm pull-up you have a 2.5V range available for the AVI?
Can you explain the circuit that you used?

Just using a 5 volt regulator with a resistor value of the half range point as the pull up resistor. Doesn't quite give me full scale (0-5 volts) but its close enough. Level sensor is actually an FD's which is 10-70 ohm I believe I'm using a 33 ohm resistor.

A good way to start is to see what

Empty = XXX Ohm
Full = XXX Ohm

and then decide from there..

I had an extra hole in my A Pillar so I just put an Autometer Fuel Level in it. It was $50.00 and easy to install with two wires.
The best is that It frees up more screens on the IQ3 for other stuff like Oil Pressure or Timing Advance.

I agree with you , fuel leveler is really missing.

Especialy on street cars ...

Fritts , you use fuel pressure input , it's a good idea ! :)

I recently added the following little circuit inline with the fuel level sender and it seemed to make the level look a lot nicer.
