Issues using a netbook?

Postby fritts on Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:38 pm

I was wondering if anyone else is having problems getting ecu manager to run on a netbook? Program will install but will not run. The customer is going to send the model and manufacturer and I will update thread.

Is the customer located outside of the US?? Remember that regional settings need to be set to United States, number separators, etc., must be set to english/USA or there are problems.

No the customer is in the US. I have not worked with the netbook with that customer for a while. Since the initial problems he had reformated the computer as he had other issues. He still said it would not connector though. I have checked and he has tried using the latest drivers and the same usb dongle that worked for me on my computer.

Usb dongle? is this a platinum ecu or an e8/e11? has he tried a different usb cable? Also, windows needs to be fully updated, ive seen machines that when they dont have the latest versions of windows updates they tend to not work well with the haltech stuff.

Worst case scenario, can he tray a different machine?

Hello,
We have the same problem. We tried 2 different laptops and one is only opening the programm thats on the cd and the other opens the newest version of manager here on the site. But bolth laptops can't connect to the ECU. The ecu is wired up and all, but when we click connect the popup appearce that says:
cannot locate ECU. What can be wrong? What can we do to connect the laptop to ecu? We have a Platinum sport 1000 ECU.

I'm not sure... But what if it is(n't)? It wouldn't run without this programm?

in my past experiences from installing ecu manager on different machines, no it won't. program will look like it's starting to load, but as soon as the main page comes up it will shut down and give an error code saying ecu manager had to close. the dotnetfx.exe install is in the bundle when you download ecu manager. just look for it in the folder and try to install it and see if that helps.

Ok thanks. We had that same problem with one of the downloads. With the CD that comes with the ECU the ECU manager (1.05.0) does start up.
When i push in the program the button 'connect' it loads a couple of seconds. Then the popup appearce that says: 'can't locate ECU'

Look at the windows 7 thread, it applies for all OS. We had the same issue and it was resolved by installing the correct install file in the ecu application. Direct X needs to install first then the rest of the program.
