Windows 8 Compatiblilty

Postby fritts » Sun Oct 07, 2012 1:28 am

Wondering if Haltech or anyone has tested ECU Manager with Windows 8 Pre Releases? Looking forward for the full Windows 8 tablets but hoping ECU Manager will have some touch screen compatibility with them.

ECU Manager won't install from the EXE installer on Windows 8. To install on Windows 8:

1) Download and run DirectX End-user runtime from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... g=en&id=35

2) Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off
Check the following without the items inside it (Can if you want but not needed): ".NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)"
Click OK and Restart if prompted to

3) Download and extract the Haltech ECU Manager 1.11.1 installer
Run the MSI installer, not the EXE installer

Done. I haven't tested connecting the ECU to the computer but Windows 7 drivers should work with Windows 8 so I don't see a problem.

Some of the staff are testing with the installation on Win8, so maybe soon we will have some info for those going to the new OS.

Did exactly what you did and loaded my USB driver and it connected to Ecu Manager perfectly. Seems more solid than with Windows 7 on my Toshiba. Now I am running Windows 8 on an Asus.

I'm new to this forum. I'm running your ps2000 on my supercharged vette.. Love the system and I'm running it with windows 8. So far no real problems. Just an occasional error now and then when trying to open a map . I just close out and reopen all is fine then. Here is a video of some runs with the ps2000

I did the installation process here on a Windows 8 Pro laptop and it went through without a problem.

It prompted me to install some DirectX 9.0c files and to turn on .NET 3.5 before going through with the installation. It then found and installed the USB drivers and went online as normal.

I am told that the thick lines (actually they are tubes) on the 3D view are caused by some laptops having a graphics driver problem. I could stand corrected, but it tends to happen in my experience with some of the Intel built in graphics chipsets and is to do with the driver not being done exactly to DirectX standards. I have 3 laptops I use here and one of them has this 3D display issue. I personally dont use the 3D view but I can see how it can be an annoyance.

Really like the program and I'm operating it with windows 7. So far no actual issues. Just an periodic mistake now and then when trying to start a map . I just went a bit near to it and reopened all of it and was in excellent then.
