Platinum Sprint - Injectors Cut Out

Postby HaltechMatthew » Thu Mar 30, 2017 3:00 pm

One of the more common tech quetions about the Sprint range of ECUs is about why a fuel cut is occuring under high load or rpm.

The Sprint series was designed to only operate with around no less than 8ohms per injector channel. The truth is not all injectors that meet this specification will still work happily with the system. Inductance also has a large bearing on whether the injectors will work or not, and even this part can be difficult to measure. The answer here is to make sure the injectors meet the resistance requirement, and if this fails try another set.

Add to this, not operating the injectors sequentially can also place transient demands on current draw with more than one injector output firing at the same time. Answer here is to use a trigger type that supports sequential operation.

Excessively high injector duty cycle, as in 100% for extended periods, can also trip off the protection. Answer here is to use larger injectors.

If you suspect you are having issues with the the fuel cutting out you need to monitor both of these channels:
Injector Pulse Error Count - This should always be "0". If it isnt then the ECU tripped off the over-current protection for the injector drivers.
Injector Pulse Error Size - If there are issues driving the injectors this will show the error with what we commanded them to fire at and what you actually got.

Not all applications have the same success. What is completely fine for one application may not work for another due to differences in injector design.

I hope this helps answer some questions.

Just a note that the Elite 550 is pretty much the ECU that replaces the Platinum Sprint 500 and Sprint RE models.

The 550 has the same injector drivers as the top of the range 2500 model so it will drive just about any injector you can find without an issue, and also will run piston and rotary engines.
