Having trouble starting car - r33 rb30det

Postby AlaZhaY on Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:06 pm

Hey,
I recently bought a Haltech platinum pro for a r33 rb25det that has a 3litre bottom end in it, from what ive heard they are really easy to setup and was planning on getting it up and running, installing a few other things then sending it in for a tune, but ive barely been able to get it to start. =/

I'm using the rb25 VE base map, changed the engine size, changed the injector flow rate, set it up to run the internal map sensor, changed the injector dead times and checked the base timing.. but when you try to start the car it fires up then stalls.. It will idle quite nicely with the zero throttle maps set up but as soon as you go to touch the throttle it stalls, the timing is quite low and ive even tried locking the timing, adjusted the idle base duty, overall fuel trims and fuel base maps.. but nothing seems to make the slightest difference

Ive heard lots of people saying they stuck the base tune in their cars n it started easy as, so i stuck it in a friends stock skyline with the base map, adjusted the over all fuel trim either way in 5% increments but it was doing the exact same thing. Is there anything im doing wrong/ not doing or could the map sensor be faulty?

Also there is a strange buzzing noise from the drivers side under the intake manifold somewhere, which isnt there with the standard ecu or the power fc, could this be a incorrect setting? is it anything i need to be concerned about?

it would be of great help if a few people could send me their base maps so i could see if im doing anything wrong Jarrod111@iinet.net.au
Also if anyone wants to look at the base map im trying to run feel free to send me a email and ill send you the tune.

Cheers for any input

Well i tracked down the buzzing noise to the AAC valve solonoid, its the one with the brown plug.. is this normal??

And when you apply the throttle, the Injector 1 duty cycle drops from the idle duty cycle of 0.9% down to 0.3% where the engine stalls.. any ideas of where my tune is going wrong?

The idle valve could certainly be making a ticking noise, this will be the valve waiting to control the idle or perform the Post start idle up.

Typically these unitsd are plugged in and the car will start and run quite well before tuning.
In your case I suggest trying to diagnose the actual problem. Does the ignition keep firing ? what are the air / fuel mixtures ?
I would suggest that with the use of a wideband o2 sensor kit and a timing light that the problem may be resolved.
Kind Regards

Fark... i just wrote the longest reply and it bloody logged me out and didn't send.

ill keep it short this time.

-The buzzing noise is only there when the zero tps map is on, so once its not really a problem
-checked the timing, was only out by a cpl of degrees, fixed
-was able to press the throttle and raise the revvs but increase the zero tps hyst and enrichening the zero tps inj ms
-disabled EVERY function and all fuel and ignition tables except for zero tps and cranking
-checked timing when the engine stalls by pressing the throttle-- remains on but retards(i think ill dbl check tomorrow)
-afr's go to very very lean when the engine goes to stall or starts hunting
-When the tps goes past the hyst value the zero tps deactivates, followed by a revv drop by the VE calculation reamins at 0???

I did go through 3 tests i conducted but i really cant be bothered going through all of them again, i'll send you 2 of the logs from some of the test
log test2: stayed under the hyst value
the short log: reduced the hyst value, and moved the tps past it, where the inj duty drops before the rpm

Tomorrow im going to set it up to run no tps, wire in the wideband to the haltech and try and run the car off the afm or at least attempt another map besides the VE one.

Cheers for the advice scott, pretty sure i somewhat solved it, all night i been thinking at work that the VE map might be the problem for some reason, changed the tuning method the inj times, entered in about 5 secs worth of values, already free revving upto 3500, im not overly fussed if VE is or isnt working, but it would be nice to determine if i did something wrong for it not to work, but im happy for now.. ill see if i can get it free revving all the way upto 7k tomorrow when people aren't sleeping. shouldnt be too hard, i already have a pretty good idea what all the injections times with rpm versus load should be from my maf tuning, should get be pretty damn close :P

i know this is old but i wanted to add my two cents, mine was doing the exact same thing. The only way i found it works properly is if you enable the air temp for the gtr and z32 only option that made mine work just fine in ve mode.
Im sure you already figured it out i just thought i would point it out for the future. I have yet to fine tune mine yet since my pc was giving me issues shortly after i figured out my problem.
