Turbo v8 crank trigger sensor question

Postby 106mmchevelle » Wed Oct 04, 2017 12:03 pm

Hi I am running a turbo 454ci v8 and haltech elite 2500 with a 60-2 crank wheel and hall sensor bracket, I have individual LS truck coils and GM cam sync (home/with 1x Hall effect) what style sensor (hall/VR) would work best for my crank setup? Full Engine Rpm should be around 8k,

It depends on the crank trigger wheel, whether it was designed for Hall or Reluctor.

Square tooth with completely 2x missing teeth cut all the way down = Hall Effect

Triangular teeth with a half-height missing teeth gap = Reluctor

In most cases, I would try to use a reluctor wheel/sensor as these have no real world RPM limitations. Most OEMs use these sensors with this 60-2 pattern. GM is one exception and perhaps look at using one of their sensors from an LS2. Hall sensors do have reaction limits and will reach an upper rpm point but this is the sensors limitation and not the ECU.

Ok awesome, here's a photo of the sensor I bought, does not seem to be the right one, maybe I can get a different wheel.

Looks designed for a Hall sensor to me.

So I’m down to my last AVInput and it’s for my wastegate pressure sensor, since I never wired a system like this before, I used all my 5v sensor power for my fuel, oil, and all the other sensors had them in their own “loom”, so my question is, can I steal 5v off another sensor or should I use the 8v sensor wire and just scale up the table .3v ? Thanks for any advice.

Never use 8V for a sensor designed for 5V. Smoke comes out!

Just tap off any of the 5V wires. These sensors draw so little current it simply wont impact anything.
