FD3S and the OMP (Elite 2500)

Postby winstonusmc » Tue Oct 17, 2017 9:13 am

I am trying to get the Oil Metering Pump working on the FD RX7 that I am working on. I am going off the Platinum Sport instructions I found online. It has no power coming into the stepper motor, converting a 6 wire stepper motor into a 4 wire. I have read that other ECUs, like adaptronic use the standard Mazda 6 wire setup, which uses external 12 volts. I haven't found much literature on wiring of the OMP. The stepper doesn't move when the engine is off. The coils test good with a ohmmeter, not sure if it actually works though.

The ECU is an Elite 2500 on a single turbo 13b-rew.

This is the PS1000 diagram I went off of:

Here is the adaptronic, same as Mazda

What is correct? Does it move when the engine is off? Do I have a busted stepper motor?

If you have 12V+ power to a stepper you will set the drive type to Low Side. If it does not have power you will set it to Both.

That worked! Thank you. The thing is a little sticky, but I think it will move fine when the engine is turning. It went all the way up to 100%, but on the way back down it stopped at about 45%. I blipped the starter and it freed it up and went back to the target value. So if the engine was running, it would operate normal.

What would be the better way to wire it though? Would the Mazda way using external 12v work better or does it matter?

It does not matter, either way is acceptable.
