ST215 Gen 4 Setup

Postby TRD-021 » Wed Sep 28, 2016 9:26 pm

Hi All,

i'm new to the aftermarket ecu world and trying to learn everything at once but I founding it a bit overwhelming. I have a Grp A ST185 with a freshly rebuilt ST215 gen 4 engine from a caldina, I just finished wiring up an elite 1500.

everything is standard, well standard injectors, COP system and turbo is from my previous ST205 engine. I've wired it up to run sequential.

I've got oil pressure and I think I have fuel and spark as last time I tried to start it up it made a big band which leads me to believe its a timing issue.

could some please check the setting pages below or point me to the right direction, i'm not confident that I have it set it correctly.

Alex

Attach the map, not the screenshots.

Hi Matt,

I hope this works, I was getting an error message and I couldn't attached the map, so I've changed the extension file to pdf and it's allowing me to attached the map

I manage to add some trigger angle and the car started for 2 seconds and them I got an code - engine position. I don't know if its the cam or crack sensor, i'll be checking the wiring and the sensor over the weekend

Regards,
Alex

What was the file extension? This tells us what ECU and Firmware Version it is.

Hi Matt,

I think something wrong happened to that file. i'll try again later.

2 weeks ago I went to the Haltech shop in Wetherill Park and showed my map to one of the guys. i was using a very old version and old firm ware, he also gave me some tips on how to set the diagnostic page.

I had some wiring issues which i've sorted them out, i cranked cranked the engine and now i'm getting signals from the cam and crank sensors.

I'm trying to synchronise the trigger and home so i've locked the timing set the firing angle to 0 degrees and with with the default value of 70 degrees on the TDC offset angle i couldn't see a mark on the crank, i've increase it by 360 and i got it to 10 degrees on the crank, i've tried to advance the TDC angle so i can move the mark to 0 degrees, but my timing light globe broke.

Once i've done this will the car start?

Other parameter are:

Trigger – reluctor
Edge – Falling edge
Home – reluctor
Edge – Falling edge

Generic – Missing Tooth – Single Tooth Home
Number of teeth – 36
Number of missing teeth – 2

i've got haltech sensors, map, air, water, calibrated the tsp and set the injectors

Edit:

I haven't tested it yet but I thought about it, if I got 10 degrees on the crank with 430 degrees on the TDC offset angle then I should be at zero at the crank by adding 40 degrees TDC, 10 degrees x 4 (4 stroke engine) = 40, so my new TDC offset angle would be 470 degrees. I need to try this..

You are over-thinking the TDC Offset in your previous post. If you are out by 10degrees then move the offset by 10 degrees.

got it synchronised, it turns out I had some wrong setting with the home. end up with totally different TDC angle.

I got the car started but i'll post this on the other section

I'm converting from a Platinum 1000 to an Elite 1500 for my ST205 also with a Gen 4 3S-GTE, would be nice to include all generations of 3S-GTEs in the Trigger Type list.

If a map can be sent to us from each variant confirming that the timing is dead-on then yes I can have them added.

Does the trigger preset not only include the number of teeth?

Trigger presets only set the tooth pattern. It has been long-ago asked for it to auto-populate ALL of the config that it can, but this most likely will not happen on this version of ESP. In future maybe...

For now, if someone sends the data to me and I can have that pattern added to the list for all of your 3STGE variants.

Gen4's, Caldinas, and any cars that came with BEAMS variants are not locally available vehicles so information on them for us is difficult to obtain. There are a handful of japanese imports here but they are too rare to be able to source on demand and we very rarely see these engines. Internally we have been building all of the config info into a database for future reference so the more info that can be sent to us the better for everyone. We do not care about the table data (not interested in anyone's tuning ability), we only want the configuration info.

Hi Matt!
The current 3S-GE/3S-GTE preset is valid for the Gen 2 and Gen 3 which have a distributor, not sure about the Gen 1 in a ST165 Celica GT-Four.
The 3S-GTE Gen 4 has reluctor crank and cam sensors, trigger is 36-2 with 1 home on the intake cam.

Gen 1 is the same.

I will have them add the Gen 4. Which vehicles is it found in? Year models? The more details the better.

Thanks!
My engine is from a ST215 Caldina, as far as I know that's the only one with it.
There is a newer ST246 Caldina which has the Gen 5 but I don't know its trigger configuration.
