MPS mazda 3 platinum interceptor

Postby subparpunk03 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 4:10 pm

Can anyone clue me in on what is different between the standard haltech interceptor and the mazdaspeed (mps) platinum interceptor? Are there some application specific features? I have tried to look at the manuals in the downloads section but there doesn't appear to be any indication of what the differences are.

We have several guys here in the States running built engines and big turbos and currently we are having trouble breaking the 350 whp mark. Even with plenty of fuel available the stock pcm seems to be limiting our output right around this mark. We have several good piggyback options (Xede, CPE Standback) and a reflash solution (cobb accessport) but as of yet, nothing seems to be able to get us over the hump and making the power that we should be.

I would like to know if there is anything different about this application that can get us around this hurdle, or if we would have better luck attempting to get a standalone to work?

Right now one of the most powerful mazdaspeed 3s in the country is using the stock ecu and a $30 manual boost controller!!!

Well, the reality is that a stock Mazda3 ECU and the like are actually smarter than a miniceptor and can probable fight you all the way. I have talked to some people that have gone the parallel installation route, using either an E8 or E11 (or now a Psport 1000/2000) and being able to tune their engines properly. The factory Cam trigger is not yet in the firmware, but you can do wasted spark semi-sequential with just that crank trigger and leave the factory ECU controlling the rest of the car, you just take over the ignition, fuel, boost, etc.

The differences with the regular Interceptor and the Platinum Interceptor are basically the package, the Interceptor is encased in a weather proof box, and the Minicptor is a smaller aluminum box and its not weather proof, also the miniceptor cost less than the regular interceptor.

Now, there are some proprietary version of the Interceptor, Vishnu Tuning has its ProCede, which is an Interceptor with different firmware to make it theirs, for example, so im sure the MPS is something along those lines.

Did a little looking around and it seems that those motors run a 36-1 crank trigger again? Can you confirm this?

the only difference with the standard and platinum is only the package but the functions are the same.haltech interceptor and the platinum interceptors are actually a new ecu designed to work and provides tuning of fuel mixtures, boost levels and ignition timing.

Thread resurrection I know, but Claudio, can you give me some more information on those who have done the parallel fitment of a PS series ECU in conjunction with the factory ECU.

I believe a Sport 500 would be perfect to run the fuel, ignition and boost maps on these vehicles. Leave the factory ECU controlling idle, drive by wire and the variable valve timing.

But need more information on how they were able to do this as these vehicles run a mechanical EFI pump with around 40 psi at idle but around 2000 psi (I believe) at peak being the DSI engines.

Any information on this would be great as I have several customers who are looking for options with there MPS3 + 6 models. I purchased the Mazdaedit re flashing program but its very limited in its mapping and I have since learned of the complexity of the stock ecu, its would be easier to go with the parallel piggy back system.
