Hi all, Happy New Year!
I am sure Im missing the obvious, but I would like to clarify the configuration for wiring up a Haltech HPI 6 for an inline 6 cylinder motor with a firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4 for both Direct Fire and Wasted Spark. I am using a Elite 2500 for this.
For direct fire:
Haltech ECU HPI output
Ign output 1 - HPI output 1 - coil1 on cylinder 1
Ign output 2 - HPI output 2 - coil2 on cylinder 2
Ign output 3- HPI output 3 - coil3 on cylinder 3
Ign output 4 - HPI output 4 - coil4 on cylinder 4
Ign output 5 - HPI output 5 - coil5 on cylinder 5
Ign output 6 - HPI output 6 - coil6 on cylinder 6
As for wasted spark; in the manual it states ' Firing order not cylinder number'
Haltech ECU HPI output
Ign output 1 - HPI output 1 - coil1 on cylinder 1
Ign output 1 - HPI output 2- coil5 on cylinder 5
Ign output 2 - HPI output 3 - coil3 on cylinder 3
Ign output 2 - HPI output 4- coil6 on cylinder 6
Ign output 3 - HPI output 5 - coil2 on cylinder 2
Ign output 3 - HPI output 6- coil4 on cylinder 4
Thanks in advance.

You are looking at a V8 diagram.
Opposing cylinders fire together.
ECU 1 to Cylinders 1+6
ECU 2 to Cylinders 2+5
ECU 3 to Cylinders 3+4

Hi Matthew ,
Yes, I used a V8 diagram as an example to clarify the term ' firing order not cylinder coil'.
Pardon the confusion as I should have attached the diagram for the 6 cylinder.
Can you please help clarify my understanding for 'direct fire' mode using a HPI for a 6 cylinder inline motor ( firing order 1-5 - 3-6- 2-4)
Is the below correct?
Haltech ECU HPI input HPI output Coil on plug on cylinder
Ign output 1 - HPI input pin 14 HPI output pin 1 cylinder 1
Ign output 2 - HPI input pin 15 HPI output pin 2 cylinder 2
Ign output 3 - HPI input pin 16 HPI output pin 3 cylinder 3
Ign output 4 - HPI input pin 17 HPI output pin 4 cylinder 4
Ign output 5 - HPI input pin 18 HPI output pin 5 cylinder 5
Ign output 6 - HPI input pin 19 HPI output pin 6 cylinder 6
For wasted spark mode using a HPI for a 6 cylinder inline motor ( firing order 1-5 - 3-6- 2-4)
Haltech ECU HPI input HPI output Coil on plug on cylinder
Ign output 1 - HPI input pin 14 HPI output pin 1 cylinder 1
HPI input pin 17 HPI output pin 2 cylinder 2
Ign output 2 - HPI input pin 15 HPI output pin 3 cylinder 3
HPI input pin 18 HPI output pin 4 cylinder 4
Ign output 3 - HPI input pin 16 HPI output pin 5 cylinder 5
HPI input pin 19 HPI output pin 6 cylinder 6
Is my understanding for using the HPI 6 for both direct fire and wasted spark modes correct ? This is for an inline 6 motor with firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4)
Thank you.

Re: Haltech High Power Igniter (HPI) configuration for 6cylinder
For direct fire always wire output number through to cylinder number. Firing order is handled by the software.
For Waste Spark the outputs fire in number sequence, so 1,2,3,4, etc.. So you need to have the output wired to the correct cylinder.

Re: Haltech High Power Igniter (HPI) configuration for 6cylinder
Matt, thanks for clarifying this. I am working on a inline 6 cylinder motor (s50b30 bmw) with a stock firing sequence of 1-5-3-6-2-4 .
I would like to run this in wasted spark mode to start the motor as I am having trouble with the cam sensor signal/HOME hence I cant run direct fire ignition.
For wasted spark for the inline 6 motor, I have wired the outputs from the HPI as below;
HPI outpout 1 &2 to Cylinders 1& 6
HPI outpout 3 &4 to Cylinders 2& 5
HPI outpout 5 &6 to Cylinders 3 & 4
I have attached for your review and advice :
1. base map configured for batch injection and wasted spark ignition.
2. Picture of both Wasted spark and direct fire configurations
Apprecaite if you can confirm if I am on the right path to setup wasted spark on this inline motor.
thanks in advance!

Re: Haltech High Power Igniter (HPI) configuration for 6cylinder
To cover it all in one go for you...
Wire injector output to cylinder number. i.e. output 1 to cyl 1, output 2 to cyl2, etc.. You can then run Semi Sequential using 6x outputs.
Wire ignition so that :
Ignition 1 goes to HPI1 + HPI6 inputs
Ignition 2 goes to HPI2 + HPI5 inputs
Ignition 3 goes to HPI3 + HPI4 inputs
HPI output number is wired to the same cylinder number coil. i.e. Output 1 to Cyl 1 coil, Output 2 to Cyl 2 coil, Output 3 to Cyl 3 coil, etc..
Firing order is the firing order of the engine. 1,5,3,6,2,4
Please update your firmware too. You are around 7 versions behind with some of those changes rather significant.

Many thanks for confirming this Matt. I have also upgraded both ESP and ecu firmware.
