The Forum is NOT for Tech Support

Postby HaltechMatthew » Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:12 am

Just making this a sticky because I have to repeat it all too often.

If you are looking for technical support please call us. Haltech is very close to being available 24 hours a day by phone where you will get immediate support from us. The forum is more for users of our systems to talk together. Staff here, mostly myself, try to get to the questions when time allows but this can often be days or even weeks before we can. So rather than post here looking for an answer and then getting upset when nobody replies straight away simply pick up the phone and talk to us.

To be able to help you we just need you to be there with the vehicle, laptop already online with the ECU, and have internet on your laptop in case we need to remote connect with you. Please do not call us for technical help if you are at work, driving in traffic, or just plain elsewhere and not actually ready to work on the issue.

If you are starting the engine for the very first time you do need to have some basic tools. You will need a timing light for most applications to verify the config is correct. A multi-meter or even a cheap USB oscilloscope can make diagnostics much quicker too. A fuel pressure gauge is also a handy tool for checked that you have fuel pressure in the rail.

With any luck everything should goes smoothly and you do not need to call us.

That's too bad. Seeing the tech support found on this forum is the reason I got rid of my old systems and purchased 4 Haltech systems. Calling in for tech support (which I have done) isn't as fun and productive as you think. It certainly is nice to have available, but a quick search of the forum yields the answer surprisingly fast sometimes without having to explain the entire situation to a technician.

I agree with above.

The amount of times i have solved a problem by doing a quick search would have saved a heap of time on the phone.

Haltech is renowned for excellent customer service and also a reason i switched.

Of course you can look for support here, but you are not guaranteed to get it or a fast reply for the reasons given above. If you are expecting to find an immediate answer, call us.

Please have one more staff answer the forum. I know it costs money but many tuners like the forum support and if it’s lacking you will lose potential buyers to other brands because they have better tech support in the forums.

I know this because all of the tuners I know value a good forum a lot. And haltech is unfortunate not famous for this, just as you say.

Like one more staff located in the US to cover up the active time better.

Forums are a massively good resource - not just for getting an answer but for the knowledge base that gets created and can be searched. A great example is the Supra Forums (supraforums.com) - threads going back for ages. Most questions have been answered ...

Back to the original post.

You can call us just about 24 hours a day and get an answer to your problems pretty much immediately with up to date information rather than reading back through older forum posts where things may have changed since it was answered. Just keep it in mind that if you are looking for help here it is just going to be slower than going through more direct contact methods.
