Nexus outputs for both Drive By Wire (DBA) and Rotary Oil Metering Pump (OMP)

Postby Shawky » Sun Nov 13, 2022 4:21 pm

Hi
On my Rx7 FC3S project I would like to have both OMP and DBW control. Am I able to achieve this with either the R3 or R6?
i.e. do I have to use the HBOs or can standard outputs be used?
i.e. what options do I have to achieve this through Haltech products?
I'm not sure whether I can use pulsed outputs for DBW or have to use HBO. The OMP will need 4 HBO.

BTW My preference at this time is to use the Nexus series R3 or R5. The R3 will be short of 8A outputs for my purposes unless I include a PDM. The R5 looks like it only has 4 HBO, so if standard outputs or pulsed outputs can be used for DBW then we are sweet :)

Thanks
Shawky

Not sure about the FC3S OMP, but if it's the same as an FD OMP, you can wire it as a "6 Wire Stepper" and use 4x DPOs, leaving the 4x HBOs open for DBW or whatever else you need.

Thanks
An oversight on my part. I have an FC3S Series 4 setup and changing over to the series 5 setup which has a 4-wire stepper motor with analog position feedback.

This is the result of my investigation using the NSP software:

Selecting Nexus R5, the DPO outputs cannot be selected for use with the Oil Metering Pump (OMP) or Drive By Wire (DBW). Thus, only the 4 HBOs are available so one CANNOT run both DBW and OMP with the Nexus R5. This does not make sense as rotary applications are not yet dead and buried.

Selecting the Elite 2500, the 4 x Half Bridge Outputs are available for the Rx7 Series 5 OMP, and two separate DBW outputs are available for DBW.

I was hoping to use the newer generation hardware of the Nexus R5 rather than an Elite 2500 plus a PDU plus keypad module in order to get the total I/O needed for my build.

Whilst the Nexus R3 might allow both OMP and DBW support it I would still need to add a PDU for the required I/O count. I can't test this using the NSP software because the current build does not allow selection of the Nexus R3 yet.

Thanks

Is it true that one needs a Nexus R5 to link to a PDU16?
With the NSP software I am not able to select a PDU16 on the Elite 2500 CAN bus. Why the limitation?
The PDU16 provides the additional HBO outputs needed when combined with an Elite 2500. The Nexus R5 + PDU16 seems a mismatch whereas the Elite 2500 and PDU 16 seems a better combination.

A PD16 can be selected and used with an Elite 2500 and Nexus software. i have one set up. I don't know if one of the software/firmware updates added it.

Thanks Jim, another learning exercise. I had to create a new project and select the latest firmware to allow inclusion of the PD16 with an Elite.
I find it strange one can't change the firmware revision without going online. (I'm yet to purchase, as I am still evaluating which model to use).

The outcome is that the FC3S Oil Metering Pump (6 wire) and Drive by Wire fits concurrently on the Nexus R5.
